Journey Beyond Ego

One way of looking at the Ego is from the context of energy. From this perspective the feelings/emotions/vibrations (I use these words interchangeably} we experience in our body are simply different frequency bands. Just as a radio has two frequency bands (AM and FM), we, also, have two bands; one belonging to our Essential Self and the other to the Ego self. The frequencies of the Ego’s energy field range on a continuum from: depression to negative/positive to excitement. The frequencies of the transcendent energy field of the Essential Self range on a continuum from: acceptance/peace to enjoyment/joy to enthusiasm/possibility. (This  description of the energy levels of the Essential Self comes from Eckhart Tolle's book, The New Earth)

The energy field of the Ego is based on the circumstances.  The Essential Self's energy field is not based on the circumstances.

At this point, it is important to reiterate a major difference between the 2 levels of energy.

The energy level of the Ego world is determined by the Ego’s belief system. How  that works: the Ego interprets circumstances (based on Its belief system) and that interpretation  triggers an emotional reaction, i. e. an energy reaction in the person. A rude comment can cause an angry reaction, based on the belief that being rude is wrong. Check out your reaction and your energy when someone cuts in front of you in a line or when someone cuts you off on the highway.
Notice what interpretations triggers your own reactions.

In contrast, the energy field of the Essential Self is not determined by circumstances. Rather the Essential Self, grounded in a higher energy field responds, rather than reacts, to what is happening from the context of Oneness. Therefore, the energy state experienced by the Essential Self is not the result of thinking ABOUT reality, BUT RATHER THE STATE OF BEING FROM WHICH REALITY IS PERCEIVED (Paraphrasing David Hawkins). More about this a little later.

Following is a list of some of the Ego-induced energy frequencies:

  • Fear
  • Anger
  • Jealousy
  • Impatience
  • Irritation
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Confusion
  • Righteousness
  • Happy/Sad
  • Excitement
  • Positive/Negative
  • Indignation
  • love/hate (Ego love)

From an energy context, life becomes a game of learning how to manage your energy state. In the section, Transformational Tools you can practice managing your energy.

It can be a transformational experience when you "get it” that your thinking creates your emotions. At that moment you realize that you can change how you feel by changing the way you think. That is FREEDOM, freedom from the Ego trap.
